Does your child have to wrestle in a tournament?
No
Is your child ready for a tournament?
It is entirely up to the parent if they want a child to wrestle a tournament. If the parent is unsure they are more than welcome to discuss with a coach. Some tournaments are novice and some are tougher. If you are concerned just ask and we will tell you what we know about each tournament.
What is the cost of tournaments?
$10-$15 each tournament
Who pays for the tournament?
You as the parent are responsible for payment up until our tournament. If you register for a tournament before Feb 14th you have two options. 1. Register with the team and make the check payable to LWC or 2. Register on your own. If our tournament is a success then the club will pay for one tournament a week through the end of the season. If it is not financially feasible for us to pay for a tournament as the board we will decide what we can do. Pay for ½, not at all, or do something else for the kids. All of our profits go back to the kids in some form.
If you want to register for a tournament after Feb 14th and you or a family representative helped with our tournament then you will need to see Theresa or Michelle to register.
Why we like to register as a team.
- Coaches know who and how many kids to plan for at each tournament.
- Sometimes we get a discount for registering as a team or online.
- We can support each other at the tournament
How to register for a tournament:
- Come to the first practice of the week with your child’s information and money-fliers will be available to fill out
- Email or call your child’s information in to Theresa or Michelle before 9 pm the night of the first practice of the week. Usually Tuesday or Wednesday.
- If you register on your own for a tournament that we are going to as a team please let us know so we can put you on the coaches’ sheet.
- If you register for a tournament we are not going to as a team we cannot guarantee a coach will be there to coach your child.
- During the last practice of the week usually Thursday we will have fliers available for the following week. We will not take registrations for the current week on Thursday as most clubs will charge a late fee.
- We will only provide fliers for tournaments we will be going to as a team. If you have a question about a different tournament I usually carry the husker land schedule with me so you can ask. I may or may not know.
- If after our tournament you want the club to pay for a tournament the team is not going to please see Theresa or Michelle. We will help you on an individual basis.
- Most registrations will ask for the following information. Your child’s name, age, Date of Birth, grade in school, weight, win loss record for this year, and if you have win loss record for last year.
Registration for our LWC tournament:
- Yes you will need to fill out a registration form preferably the Tuesday prior to our tournament.
Registration for State tournament:
- Will distribute information as we get it.
Participation in weekly tournaments:
- Good sportsmanship
- Team singlet’s-please wear the LWC blue singlet. This helps our coaches find our wrestlers quickly during a tournament.
- Headgear is optional for k-8th wrestlers, but highly recommended.
- Wrestling shoes are not mandatory-we only ask that you wear shoes that have not been worn outside-it is hard on the mats.
